Culture and proliferation of SUM159-GFP breast cancer cells on methagel/PEGDA blended self-folded tubes. SUM159-GFP cells were seeded onto the surface of hydrogel blend bilayers with the outer layer made of methagel PEGDA and the inner layer of PEGDA 700. Epifluorescence images of GFP-positive cells (green) were taken over a series of days. (A) By day 2, cells that had attached grew sparsely. (B, C) Cells proliferated and began filling in the empty spaces along the hydrogel surface during day 4 and 6. (D) By day 9, cells were densely populated and the hydrogel tube was overgrown.
