The potency of algal cell extracts to the mammalian cells was inferred from the bioassay volume resulting in cell death; thus, 1 μl = +++, 2 μl = ++, and 4 μl = +. Cytotoxic activity is inferred from the immortalized mammalian cell lines GH4C1 and N2A which exhibit predominantly Ca2+ channel activity and Na+ channel activity, respectively. Bioassay results where no cytotoxicity was detected is indicated by ‘–’ and ‘ND’ indicates bioassays could not be performed because of poor growth and insufficient biomass.
