Opaque patterns in a transparent background were used as object images (x_s). The smallest feature size was 0.8 μm. Holograms were simulated for a 2.4-μm pixel imager. The reconstruction based on Rayleigh-diffraction only produced blurred images (x₀), whereas the sparsity algorithm recovered sub-pixel features (x_ε).
