Increase in compactness requires the removal of Ser-like properties. The ANS assay shows a marked decrease in fluorescence that is comparable to the phosphorylation of wild-type CDC37 (WT (14 h)) when serine 13 is mutated to alanine, aspartic acid, or glutamic acid. The biochemically more conserved mutant S13C retains the fluorescence pattern of wild-type CDC37.
