Screening and enrollment process

  1. Initial telephone or face-to-face contact with potential participant

    • Prescreening questionnaire

    • Initial assessment for eligibility

    • Parental diabetes verification

    • Schedule clinical screening visit

    • Provide informed consent form and instructions for oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT)

  2. Clinical screening visit

    • Review eligibility checklist

    • Discuss study objectives

    • Review and execute informed consent

    • Rule out pregnancy

    • Medical history

    • Anthropometry, blood pressure, physical examination

    • OGTT

    • Other laboratory measurements- complete blood count, urinalysis, liver function tests, electrolytes, serum creatinine

  3. Determine final eligibility based on medical history, findings and OGTT results

    • Eligible participants: Enroll and schedule next study visit

    • Ineligible participants: Provide feedback letter for presentation to primary care provider
