Cluster size parameterizations. Surface area (s) and monomer count (m) parameterizations are used interchangeably for expressing the size of mineral clusters. Clusters are assumed to be spherical and composed of an integer number m of monomers (Posner’s clusters). The cluster as a whole has surface area s. To denote the conversion between these two parameterizations, we use functions m(s) : sm and s(m) : ms.
