Heparin promotes osteocyte-induced osteoclast formation. (A) RAW264.7 were cultured alone, in the absence of both MLO-Y4 cells and RANKL; Eight days later (BD) RAW 264.7 were co-cultured with MLO-Y4 for eight days, with or without the addition of 10 IU/mL heparin and 10 nM 1,25(OH)2D3. The osteoclasts were stained for TRAP (80×); and (E,H) RAW264.7 were cultured with or without MLO-Y4 on dentin slice, in the presence or absence of 10 IU/mL heparin and 10 nM 1,25(OH)2D3. The resorption pits were stained with toluidine blue (200×).TRAP: tartrate resistant acid phosphatase.
