Fig. 2 — Persistence of P. luminescens bacteria decreases in chico mutants. Escherichia coli (strain K12) or Photorhabdus luminescens (strain TT01) bacteria were injected into 7-10 day old Drosophila melanogaster chico mutants and yellow white (yw) background control adult flies. Colony Forming Units (CFU) for (a) non-pathogenic E. coli and (b) pathogenic P. luminescens bacteria at 3, 16 and 30 h following bacterial infection were determined by quantitative PCR. Data analysis was performed by unpaired two-tailed t-test and significant differences are indicated by asterisks (***P < 0.0005; *P < 0.05). Bars show the means from three independent experiments and error bars represent standard deviation
