Compromised sporulation of the sepG null mutant of S. coelicolor. (a) Comparison of S. coelicolor M145 and its sepG null mutant GAL1. Note the lack of grey pigmentation of the sepG mutant owing to failure to produce the grey spore pigment. (b) Phase-contrast light micrographs of cultures grown on SFM agar against slides. Note that expression of wild-type SepG (GAL93) or SepG–eGFP (GAL7) restores sporulation to the ylmG mutant. The arrow indicates a straight aerial hypha in GAL1. All cultures were grown on SFM agar plates for 3 days at 30°C. Scale bar, 5 µm.
