In the diagram, blue circles represent groups of Poisson firing neurons while red circles represent groups of bursting neurons. Inhibitory connections are not shown in the diagram. (B) Neural network where the bursting spike trains generated by neurons receiving independent input constitutes the correlated input to downstream neurons. (C) Same as (B) but the bursting spike trains now receive correlated input and therefore are correlated themselves.
