Brain map data and its representation in the database. (2010). A brain map represents a set of delineated areas with characteristic names described in the figures or text of literature references. Right side: Ferretome.org database schema related to the brain maps data modality. The main entity is a brain map (linked to a literature table). One brain map can encompass many brain sites with different acronyms and types. Brain areas can, for example, be classified into cortical and subcortical regions, and supplemented with special data codes (PDC and extension codes, described in the main text).
