(A-D) Model of a developing myelin sheath in a wrapped, unwrapped and cross section view. The unwrapped representation shows the geometry and the development of the sheath and the localization of the cytoplasmic channels, which connect the cell body and the growth zone at the inner tongue. The growth zone is colored in pink and compacted myelin in dark violet. The wrapped representation shows the position of the layers when wrapped around the axon.
