Growth of the lon, clpP, and clpX mutants under stress conditions. Overnight cultures of LVS (WT) and its derivatives were adjusted to an OD₆₀₀ of 0.2 in PBS and diluted 10-, 100-, 1,000-, and 10,000-fold in PBS. A chocolate agar plate was spotted with 10 μl of each dilution and incubated at 37°C, at 39°C, or in the presence of 1.5% NaCl.
