The unit cell of the ideal cubic structure of an ABO3 perovskite. The large A cation is at the center of a cuboctahedron and the small B cations at the center of regular octahedra. In order to exist, the A-O and B-O bond distances must be related so that (A-O) = (B-O)(2)1/2. On the right side of figure are indicated the bonding scheme and the coordinations of the atoms (atoms in curly brackets are the central, coordinating atoms).
