Figure 2

Docosahexenoic acid (DHA) suppresses interleukin (IL)-1β-enhanced mRNA expression of matrix metalloproteinase-13 (MMP-13) in SW1353 cells. SW1353 cells were pretreated with different concentrations of DHA for 1 h, followed by the stimulation of IL-1β (5 ng/ml) for 24 h. Relative expression of MMP-13 was measured by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and normalized to GAPDH. The relative expression level of MMP-13 in the IL-1β alone group was defined as 1. IL-1β-enhanced MMP-13 expression was inhibited by DHA in a dose-dependent manner. *P<0.05, compared with non-treatment control; #P<0.05, compared with IL-1β alone group.
