Figure 4

Localization of LRFN2 at synapses in the cerebellar granular region with EM/DAB immunoperoxidase (a) or immunogold (bn). DAB labeling is generally weak, but can be found in the postsynaptic density (arrowhead; compare with an unlabeled synapse in the lower right corner). Immunogold labeling for LRFN2 (5 nm gold; arrowheads) is found in the postsynaptic membrane/density (b, c) where it co-localizes with labeling for the NMDA receptor subunit, NR1 (15 nm gold; d, e). Labeling for LRFN2 also is seen on the presynaptic membrane or in extrasynaptic membrane locations (fi). In addition, labeling for LRFN2 is found in attachment plaques (jn) where it can be seen to co-localize with NR1 in some examples (km). m, mossy fiber terminal. Scale bar is 500 nm for the EM/DAB and 100 nm for immunogold.
