Typical mass resolution as a function of the transient time in a FT-ICR MS with an infinity cell (7.0 T magnet) using the magnitude and absorption modes. Notice that high mass resolution can be achieved for short GC peaks (5 s) and ultrahigh mass resolution can be achieved for GC peaks in the range of 12–20 s, assuming 15 FT-ICR- MS acquisitions per GC peak.
