The C-terminus and the nuclear localization are essential for the function of PvRxLR28 effector. (A) Deletion analysis of PvRxLR28. Deletion mutants were expressed by agroinfiltration in N. benthamiana to assay suppression of cell death induced by BAX. Typical symptoms were photographed 5 d after infiltration of the BAX. (B) Nuclear localization is required for mediating the suppression of PCD. NES impairs accumulation of GFP: PvRxLR28 in N. benthamiana nucleus. N. benthamiana leaves were agroinfiltrated with the indicated constructs 48 h before assessment of GFP confocal imaging. Scale bars, 50 μm.
