Table 3.

Characteristics of deaf participants who performed above chance on the rhyme task and their hearing control group: mean (s.d.) [range] of age, NVIQ (shortened version of Advanced Progressive Matrices - APM), reading level (Gates-McGinitie reading test) and education level. Deaf and hearing participants did not differ on sex (3 male each group), age, NVIQ or education level (p’s >.1). However, hearing participants were better readers than deaf participants (p<.02)*.
