Diplonema papillatum lacks an orthologue of the glycosome-targeted phosphofructokinase (PFK) gene found in other euglenozoans. A Bayesian consensus phylogeny of PFK was inferred under the C60 model in PhyloBayes. Euglena gracilis and kinetoplastid PFKs form a monophyletic group (clade A) with high posterior support (PP = 0.99). By contrast, D. papillatum PFK2 clusters with a PFK homologue from the haptophyte E. huxleyi (PP = 1) and is nested within the clade ‘B’ (PP = 0.99). Branch lengths are proportional to the expected number of substitutions.
