NMDAR current (gA = 0) increases the firing frequency above 20 Hz (A) whereas AMPA (gN = 0) evokes a much smaller frequency increase and provokes depolarization block (B) in the minimal model of DA neuron (Equation 1). Spikes are registered as the voltage oscillation crosses the threshold of −0.4 (dimensionless units).
