The last column gives the effective volume fraction ${\zeta }^{\text{eff}}=\zeta {\left(R^{\text{eff}}/R\right)}^3$ obtained with $R^{\text{eff}}=R+\mathrm{\Delta }r$ and our estimate $\mathrm{\Delta }r=35$ nm. Except for ref. 8, all listed references report deswelling in monodisperse pNIPAM suspensions. In ref. 8, small particles are mixed with larger particles at a small concentration of ∼0.1 wt%.
