Uptake of glucose-functionalized (GA) particles in MDA-MB-231 tumors in vivo. (a) Accumulation of mesoporous silica particles (MSN) and MSN-GA particles in orthotopic MDA-MB-231 tumors in NSG mice after intravenous injection of 20 mg/kg particles. Tumors were implanted either in the left or the right mammary inguinal glands and distributed into two groups to receive either MSN or MSN-GA particles. Tumor accumulation was analyzed with Optix MX3 Small Animal Molecular Imager system (ART Inc) and the Optiview software (Versions 1.04 and 2.02; ART). The figure shows images of two mice injected with MSN particles (upper images) and two mice injected with MSN-GA particles (lower images) at the day of injection and the following day (24 hours). (b) The graphs show quantification of fluorescent intensity.
