Cytotoxic effects of streptococci on PBEC were quantified by a standard LDH-release assay. (A) Time-dependent cytotoxic effects of S. suis wt on PTEC and PBEC. Cytotoxic effects of S. suis wt, 10Δsly,10ΔcpsΔsly, cW461F and cS148 on PBEC, respectively, at 4 hpi (B) and at 48 hpi (C). Results are expressed as x-fold increase compared to mock-infected cells (mock). Results are expressed as means ± SEM and significance, indicated by *(P-value < 0.05), **(P-value < 0.01), ***(P-value < 0.0001), was determined using one-way-ANOVA and Tukey multiple comparison test. Experiments were performed at least three times.
