A and B: Distribution histograms of the duration of the epileptiform discharges recorded from PC (A) and EC (B) during control (4AP, 50 μM) and during application of either HCO3--free HEPES-buffered solution (n = 6 experiments) or BA (10 μM, n = 4 experiments). Note that HCO3--free HEPES-buffered solution modulated the duration of epileptiform discharges in both regions, causing a significant change in the distribution of epileptiform discharges duration and specifically disappearance of prolonged ictal events whereas BA (10 μM) did not affect the distribution of epileptiform discharges duration.
