Potential mechanism of action for impaired cardiac repair and recovery in SIRT3 KO mice post-MI. SIRT3 deletion results in, on the one hand decreased expression of angiogenic growth factors and thus neovascularization, on the other hand endothelial dysfunction and coronary microvascular dysfunction (decreased CFR). Taken together, decreased neovascularization and pre-existing coronary microvascular dysfunction limit cardiac repair and recovery post-MI.
