FIG 5

Prenylation and postprocessing enzymes Ram1, Rce1, Ste24, and Ste14 play a role in mating filament formation during C. neoformans sexual development. Overnight cultures of MATα wild-type (H99) and ram1Δ (SKE1), rce1Δ (LKA1), rce1Δ ste24Δ (LKA18), and ste14Δ (YSB1187) mutant strains were each mixed with equal amounts of the wild-type MATa strain (KN99a). Similarly, the MATa ste24Δ strain (LKA14) was mixed with equal amounts of the MATα wild-type (H99) and MATα rce1Δ (LKA1) strains. Each mating mixture was spotted onto MS mating medium and incubated for 7 days in the dark. Images were taken at the peripheries of the mating mixtures.
