Activation of ERK and MAPK contributes to PES-induced apoptosis to a greater extent than suppression of PI3K/Akt signaling. u937 cells were incubated at indicated concentrations of PES with or without the PI3K/Akt (Ly294002) inhibitor, the ERK inhibitor (PD98059), the JNK inhibitor (SP600125), and the p38 inhibitor (SB203580). The results showed that although PES suppressed PI3K/Akt signaling, the activation of ERK contributed more to PES-induced apoptosis rather than PI3K/Akt signaling suppression.
