Cuticle thicknesses for calyptrae and sporophytes at two developmental stages for four Funariaceae species. For each developmental stage (young and older), cuticle thicknesses were measured from the periclinal cell walls of the epidermis for three individuals and then averaged (mean ±SE). Statistically significant differences (P < 0.05) between cuticle layers are starred with an asterisk. (A) Aphanorrhegma serratum. (B) Physcomitrellopsis africana. (C) Physcomitrium pyriforme.
