SGA neonates (n = 2891) admitted to a NICU who had at least 2 platelet counts obtained in the first week were matched by gestational age and date of birth (within 1 month) with non-SGA neonates admitted to a NICU with at least 2 platelet counts in the first week, to assess any association between SGA status and early (first-week) thrombocytopenia.
