Cells were grown in LB medium to an OD600 of about 0.1 and supplemented with 1 mM IPTG where indicated, then harvested after two additional hours. Levels of intracellular Mn, Fe and Zn were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Strains included in the study were WT and Pspac-frvA (with or without IPTG induction). The total concentration of ions was expressed as μg ion per gram of protein content (mean ± SD; n=9). **P<0.01 and ***P<0.001 indicate statistically significant difference between the indicated groups.
