Effect of iron supplementation on the antimalarial activity of compound 5f in vitro. The effect of compound 5f (25 μM) on P. falciparum growth was monitored in the presence of increasing concentrations of FeCl3 (0 to 100 μM). After 48 h of treatment, the parasites were lysed in 100 μl of lysis buffer containing 2× SYBR green nucleic I acid stain, followed by incubation for 1 h. Data were collected upon excitation at 485 nm and after emission at 530 nm in terms of the fluorescence intensities. The experiment was performed in triplicate. Data are shown as means ± the SD (*, P < 0.5; **, P < 0.05 [versus the control]).
