Relevant structures for studying SABRE in aqueous environments in the present work, pre (7, 13, and 16) and post (14 and 15) activation in the presence of H2 gas and pyridine (py) substrate. 16 is the “traditional” Ir/IMes SABRE catalyst in its preactivated form, whereas 7 and 13 are the water-soluble PEGylated and cyclooctadiene-diol (“CODDA”) variants, respectively (the numbering of the above structures is explained in the Supporting Information Figures S1 and S2, which, respectively, summarize the synthesis of structures 7 and 13).
