Intracellular P. vivax survival in response to different regimens of IFN-γ treatment. Infected HC04 cells were treated with IFN-γ (400 U/mL) for 4 h postinvasion (4 h PI) or for 4 h at 24 h postinvasion (4 h at 24 h PI). Alternatively, the cells were pretreated with IFN-γ (400 U/mL) for 4 h before infection (4 h BI) with P. vivax sporozoites. After IFN-γ washout, the liver-stage parasites were allowed to grow until day 4, at which time the infected cells were harvested for IFA of intracellular P. vivax survival. Data are mean ± SEM of two independent experiments carried out in triplicate; the results are expressed relative to the full control, defined as 100%.
