Gelatin and sugar-based excipients protect IPV during dehydration. Without excipients, very little IPV survives being dried under vacuum for 1 h. When mixed first with gelatin, carbohydrates, or a combination of carbohydrates with MSG and MgCl2, IPV recovery improves drastically. All experimental groups are statistically significant compared to IPV dried without excipients (< 0.0001).
