Black boxes indicate lineages containing ectodomain-only findings: Tenebrionidae (Tca), Glossinidae (Gmo), Drosophilidae (Dme), Culicidae (Aae, Aga, Cqu) and Daphniidae (Dpu). The findings in Diptera could be linked to the finding in Coleoptra, which both stem from Endopterygota. However, no findings have been made in Hymenoptera or Lepidoptera. The fact that the positive findings are spread out over the tree suggest multiple formation events.
