Surgical data from three control and six small-bowel resection (SBR; ostomy repair) patients. Control patient samples were from healthy tissue taken before resection. For SBR patients, the time to ostomy repair averaged 65 days. When noted in surgical records, resection length ranged between 2 and 10 cm.
NEC, necrotizing enterocolitis; SIP, spontaneous intestinal perforation.
