Under non-tolerant conditions, proteins are partially sialylated by sialyltransferases (GTs), and sialic acids on the proteins are further removed by sialidase on the cell surface. After induction of endotoxin tolerance, proteins are heavily sialylated by the increased expression of ST3Gal6, and the interaction between the proteins and Siglec-1 enhances TGF-β1 production.
