(b) The colonization of the east resulted from the range expansion of populations from the Midwest region. (c) The population in the northeast is the product of admixture from an Atlantic and Midwest colonization. Grey on the phylogeny represents the unsampled (U) population that dispersed through the Atlantic coast. ‘Source’ indicates the population from Mexico; lineage ‘Midwest’ groups Arizona, Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Iowa and Indiana; and lineage ‘East’ groups the remaining sampled populations.
