(Upper) Whole brain 18F-FDG uptake was 9% lower in mild AD (n = 12) compared to cognitively normal age-matched controls (Older; n = 42; #p < 0.05 corrected for false discovery rate). 18F-FDG uptake was also 9% lower in healthy older adults compared to younger adults (Young; n = 30; p < 0.05 corrected for false discovery rate). Values for mild cognitive impairment (MCI; n = 9) were not statistically different between the Older and AD groups. In contrast to FDG, whole brain 11carbon-acetoacetate (11C-AcAc) uptake did not differ significantly between any groups. (Lower) statistical differences were present for the 18F-FDG and 11C-AcAc uptake constants (Nugent et al., 2014b; Castellano et al., 2015b).
