All estimates were adjusted for sex, age, body mass index, mean arterial pressure, heart rate, total cholesterol, γ‐glutamyltransferase, plasma glucose, LV mass index, and treatment with diuretics, β‐blockers, and inhibitors of the renin‐angiotensin system. Estimates express the change in the dependent variable for a 1‐SD increase in circulating metabolites. P values and 95% CIs account for testing 44 metabolites according to the Bonferroni approach. HDL indicates high‐density lipoprotein; LV, left ventricular.
