Molecular mechanisms of cholestasis in sepsis. In the setting of sepsis, bile flow is mainly impaired due to changes in bile acid transport. There is a downregulation of the basolateral bile acid transporters, NTCP and OATP and canalicular bile acid transporters, BSEP and MRP2.
