Maternal age at delivery. Highest proportions of patients were primigravida 72%. Elective caesarean section was carried out in 38%, and the remaining were emergency cases. Intra- and post-operative antimicrobial prophylaxis was given in both settings of patients for a duration of 7–12 days. Intra-operative prophylaxis was associated in patients with long duration of rupture of membranes. Patients who underwent the elective procedure received pre-operative antimicrobial prophylaxis.
