Assessment and diagnosis of a patient with persistent haematuria, where infection and structural renal tract disease (eg malignancy) has been excluded. Kidney biopsy is not usually indicated in the absence of proteinuria, hypertension or renal impairment, but may be performed in some circumstances. AS = Alport syndrome; TBMN = thin basement membrane nephropathy.
