Solutions of the total proteins of transgenic hairy roots (160 μg) were adjusted to the acidic pH values of 2 or 3 or the basic pH value of 9 and were incubated at 80°C for 10 (left plate) or 20 min (right plate). The level of antimicrobial activity against E. coli was determined. C shows the effect of untreated transgenic root total proteins. In all cases, a P value of ≤ 0.01 was considered significant.
