miRNAs regulate p53 through direct targeting as well through indirect mechanisms such as targeting p53 regulators. p53 also regulates several miRNAs, through transcriptional activation as well as other mechanisms. The miRNAs involved in the p53 network carry out important functions regulating several cellular pathways such as proliferation, apoptosis, invasion and migration. In this figure, solid lines represent direct regulation, while dashed lines represent indirect, or poorly characterized regulation.
