FIG 6

Uranium sensitivity of D. radiodurans and E. coli. Pregrown wild-type D. radiodurans or E. coli cells were suspended in U under either GC1 or GC2 for 4 h under sterile conditions. In GC2, the carbonate concentration was 2.4 times higher than the U concentration used. The uranium-exposed cells were either spotted (10 μl) on LB or TGY agar plates for visual examination of growth or plated on agar plates to determine CFU (A) or inoculated into liquid broth medium (at OD600 of 0.5) and grown for 18 h (B). The CFU obtained after plating are indicated in parentheses.
