Faculty Mentor Responsibilities in Facilitating CBPR-Focused Doctoral Studies

  • Connect interested students with funded CBPR studies and meetings/events centered around these partnerships

  • Advise student enrollment in CBPR / community health oriented courses

  • Support the pursuit of additional funding as CBPR-focused doctoral studies can take considerable more time and resources versus traditional doctoral studies

    Assist student with developing communication skills necessary to foster community relationships and identify issues salient to the community

  • Assist student to trouble-shoot complex survey development (translation, altering survey) and data collection (times and places to collect) issues

  • Provide opportunities for students to observe and interact with existing CBPR studies such as observing partnership meeting and attending planned community-academic events.

  • Identify an academic mentor within the CBPR partnership to facilitate student’s integration in to the organization.

  • Identify and advise students on available CBPR / community health oriented courses.

  • Assist student with developing communication skills necessary to foster community relationships and identify issues salient to the community.

  • Assist student to trouble-shoot complex study implementation issues such as survey development (translation, altering survey) and data collection (times and places to collect) issues.

  • Support the pursuit of additional funding for dissertation research as CBPR-focused doctoral studies can take considerable more time and resources versus traditional doctoral studies.
