Truncated defective HIV-1 proviruses could be detected as early as 24 h following in vitro infection of primary CD4⁺ T cells. Purified CD4⁺ T cells from healthy volunteers were activated in vitro with PHA+IL-2 for 3 d and infected with HIV-1 DH12 at multiplicity of infection (MOI) = 0.01.
