Schematic illustration of the neural correlates of sensory entrainment. Temporally structured auditory signals reach the sensory system (e.g., in the forms of speech and music). Neural correlates of sensory entrainment include synchronization of neural oscillations in the sensory cortices (Gross et al., 2013; Lakatos et al., 2013) and activation in the putamen (Geiser et al., 2012) (Figures adapted from Calderone et al., 2014 and Geiser et al., 2012).
